The
Gîte - Sleeps 4
The "Gîte" ( meaning house/shelter) is a traditional Breton
cottage, of stone and slate. It was first built to be lived in by the farm
labourer and until recently had a typical mud floor. Times change & the
hired help with his horse has been replaced with a tractor. The Gîte
fell into ruins and has since been completely refurbished to provide a cosy
cottage, suitable for holidaying.
The accommodation is for 4 people & a baby. Downstairs
is a comfortable lounge with the focal point being the wood burning stove. On autumn, winter & spring
holidays, the logs you load into the stove and the chestnuts that you collect
to roast, together with the original wooden beams add to the atmosphere.
The kitchen is
fully equipped with a full sized cooker, fridge, coffee maker, microwave & toaster. All
pots, pans, matching china & wine
glasses are provided, so to are basic groceries such as salt,
pepper, tin foil & kitchen roll. The dining table overlooks the
courtyard, an area that is protected from the northeast by the L shaped
farm buildings
and from the west by the trees, leaving only the south & its
sunshine. A natural suntrap to sunbathe, breakfast, snack, wine or
dine.
Back indoors and up the pine open staircase, large windows give an
airy feeling and the “beautiful view” in
the name. The roof space hosts a mezzanine landing on which there are
two single
beds. There is a double bedroom too. All beds are fully made
up with English pillows & duvets, ready to sleep in. The
shower room is up here as well with WC and washbasin.
